If your electrical rough-in is scheduled within the next 2–4 weeks, this is the most important lighting week of your project.
Here is what should be confirmed right now.
1. Final Fixture Coordinates
Not just “we want pendants.”
But exact location relative to:
- island dimensions
- table placement
- bed position
- vanity centerlines
- fireplace or focal walls
Lighting should align with how space is used not just ceiling symmetry.
If your dining table shifts 6 inches, your chandelier must shift 6 inches.
This is your last clean opportunity to confirm alignment before wires are pulled.
2. Control Logic by Room
Write this out clearly:
Room → Light Sources → Switch Location → Dimming? → 3-way?
If that map does not exist, lighting logic likely has not been finalized.
Walk through each entry path:
- Front door to living room
- Garage entry to kitchen
- Bedroom to bathroom at night
Lighting comfort is built into switch placement.
3. Task Lighting Confirmation
Stand mentally at:
- prep surfaces
- sinks
- vanities
- desks
- outdoor grill stations
Where does the light originate?
If it’s directly overhead, shadowing is likely.
Task lighting should land slightly forward of body position.
4. Exterior Strategy
Before rough-in, confirm:
- Garage glare control
- Snow reflection planning
- Entry brightness
- Pathway safety
- Patio usability
Exterior lighting mistakes are especially difficult to correct later.
If rough-in is near, lighting must be final; not “close.”
